UAE Freelance Visa Comparator
You’re going freelance in the UAE — find out which free zone actually fits your activity, budget, and priorities before you pay anything.
What is a UAE freelance visa?
A UAE freelance visa is not a single document — it is two separate legal instruments that must both be active at the same time. The freelance permit (issued by a UAE free zone) authorises you to work independently and issue invoices. The residence visa (processed through UAE immigration via the free zone) gives you the legal right to live in the country, open a bank account, and sponsor family members.
The permit and visa are separate fees, but both come through your chosen free zone. If one lapses — especially the permit — your bank account operations are suspended and you cannot renew the visa until the permit is reinstated with any accumulated late fees.
Important: TECOM visa suspension (2026)
As of 2026, TECOM / GoFreelance (Dubai Development Authority) issues freelance permits but has suspended residence visa issuance. Dubai-based freelancers who want the TECOM permit for prestige must obtain their residence visa through a Northern Emirates free zone. A Northern Emirates permit is fully valid for Dubai residence — your emirate of permit does not restrict where you live.
