The 2,000 kcal daily reference figure on food labels is a population average designed for nutritional labelling, not a target for any individual. Your Total Daily Energy Expenditure — the actual number of calories your body burns in 24 hours — depends on your age, sex, weight, height, and how physically active you are. For a sedentary 45-year-old woman of average weight, TDEE might be 1,750 kcal. For a 28-year-old male construction worker, it can exceed 3,400 kcal.
